“To all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, [Jesus] gave the right to become children of God.”

What a simple, yet profound truth!

When you received Jesus—when you prayed, believing and trusting in Christ to forgive your sins—you became a child of God. God has provided not just a way for you to know him, but a way to be adopted into his family. Through Jesus Christ, you have become God’s beloved son or daughter. 

Each of us experienced a physical birth, and every year we celebrate the anniversary of that day. But if you have placed your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ—accepting his work for you on the cross and allowing him to come into your life—you have another day to celebrate: the day you were born again and became a child of God! 

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! . . . Dear friends, now we are children of God.”

Consider This:

• Can you remember the exact day that you became a child of God?
• How can you celebrate that day in a way that would help others see the joy Jesus has brought into your life?
